When people first saw this video, it hit a nerve – one that created a viral effect that has hit major outlets like – Huffington Post, OK Magazine, Ad Age, Cambridge News, The Guardian, Shape Magazine, Adweek, and more!
It is hugely popular because it hits home for so many women. The average size of most females in the U.S., according to a 2011 Women’s Wear Daily report, is a 14, as stated by Huffington Post. This is not to say that these women aren’t healthy, but that with the sedentary lifestyle of most Americans, many of these women do not do a lot of physical activity. They become discouraged because of poor body image, insecurities, and diminished self esteem. This video is working to change those views and encourage women to rise above judgement and find their own way to move, be healthy, and enjoy it along the way.
The campaign, “This Girl Can,”
“celebrates the women who are doing their thing no matter how they do it, how they look or even how sweaty they get. They’re here to inspire us to wiggle, jiggle, move and prove that judgement is a barrier that can be overcome. #thisgirlcan”
