Angelina Jolie Inspires Children To Be Different
Recently Angelina Jolie won an award via Kids Choice for her star role as a villain in the Disney movie Maleficent. This was the first time she was out in public since she wrote about removing her ovaries. When she accepted her award she delivered some powerful words of inspiration to her young audience. She delved into certain feelings that children and young adults may experience about how to feel valuable in a setting where they don’t feel they belong. She addressed children who felt ‘different’ and didn’t feel like they ‘fit in’. These such issues are very common for our youth. Angelina says:
“I want to say when I was little, like Maleficent, I was told that I was different — and I felt out of place, and too loud, too full of fire, never good at sitting still, never good at fitting in. And then one day I realized something, something I hope you all realize. Different is good.”
She really hit home with a lot of people because it’s easy to get wrapped up in what children DON’T do right as opposed to what they can be commended for. Children are like snow flakes in that no two children are alike. Everyone has their differences and we must learn to play to those strengths rather than to diminish others for not ‘fitting in’. We found her speech to be very uplifting and empowering for her young audience and we truly hope that her message is embraced by children and adults alike. To top it off she even stoked some fire! She told the kids:
“Cause a little trouble it’s good for you”
Now don’t get too carried away Angelina Jolie!!! Haha.
